We have served the Boulevard Park area since 1921, when several
teachers from the First Presbyterian Church downtown opened a branch Sunday school.
Out of that early witness a church was born and a building erected on Des Moines
Way South.
We were incorporated in 1940 as the Boulevard Park Presbyterian Church and we moved
to our present facility in 1954.
In May 1979, our congregation was wrestling with the necessity of separation from
the United Presbyterian Church. The basic issue was authority of church laws over
authority of Scripture. We could not yield to the denomination in this matter because
of our basic belief in the inerrant Word, and our commitment to be led by God in
that belief.

It was not an easy act, or one to be taken lightly, to leave a denomination;
yet, the majority consensus of opinion was that no other way was open to us, and
the more we prayed, the clearer the choice became. We voted unanimously to separate
on July 20, 1980 and did so. We have remained non-denominational since that time.
Over the years the importance of prayer has been emphasized. Men's, Women's, Youth
and Children's ministries have been - and continue to be - an important part of
our church. We have always had a heart for bringing the gospel not only to our community
but to the world and enthusiastically support mission work.
Our worship services are centered on the Bible and we offer a wide variety of Bible
training opportunities for all age groups.
Our desire is to Prepare God's People - to worship, to witness, to work, and to
walk.
